Bahama Breeze Closure: Why the Beloved Chain Is Shutting Down

America’s Favourite Island Restaurant Chain May Disappear – What’s Next for Bahama Breeze?

The warm, tropical vibe and Caribbean-inspired dishes of Bahama Breeze might soon vanish from the American food scene.

Its parent company, Darden Restaurants—which also owns Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse—has announced plans to sell off all remaining 14 Bahama Breeze locations. Just last month, the company already shut down 15 outlets across states like Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, and New York.

Why Is Bahama Breeze Closing?

During a recent earnings call, Darden CEO Rick Cardenas shared the tough decision:

“These restaurants are no longer a strategic priority for us.”

He added that the brand might do better under new ownership. That’s why the company is exploring options to sell the chain. If a buyer isn't found, Darden may convert existing Bahama Breeze outlets into more successful brands like Olive Garden or LongHorn Steakhouse.

What Made Bahama Breeze So Loved?

For years, Bahama Breeze was known for:

  • Jamaican jerk wings

  • Jerk chicken pasta

  • Fun cocktail flights

  • Lively, beachy ambiance

Despite its loyal fanbase, the brand couldn’t escape growing industry challenges—like high food costs, rising wages, and changing customer preferences.

Notable Indian Restaurant Closures & Shifts

1. Kwality Restaurant (Kolkata)

  • The Ballygunge branch—serving North Indian and continental fare—closed on May 5, 2025, after 69 years due to a landlord redevelopment dispute. Plans are underway to reopen at a new location; the flagship Park Street outlet remains open

2. IHOP (International House of Pancakes) in India

  • IHOP’s franchise in India closed three outlets in the Delhi-NCR region and shut its Mumbai branch in 2024. Only one outlet remains, in Pune, prompting the company to reassess its Indian strategy

3. Widespread Casual & Casual-Dining Closures

  • A slowdown in consumer spending has led to a 30–35% closure rate among mid-sized restaurants and cloud kitchens across major cities. High rentals, delivery commissions, and labour costs are forcing many to shut or pivot to delivery-only models
